Abstract

Printing result have played an important role as product packaging, it provides complete information about a product and increase consumers’ interest. Problems in printing process are improper print position, line appears, ink spots, leaky mold, blocking, freckles, dry ink, blusseing and mottling. This research used DMAIC stages to improve the printing problems. In define stage, critical defect such as improper print position, line appears, and colour. In measure stage, the value of the DPMO 18372, Sigma Level of the company stood at 3,58 sigma. Using FMEA in analyze stage, improper print position caused by the non-precision components of the cylinder, namely gear and bearing, color defects are caused by the composition of ink and line appears defects are caused by the mix of  find ink with dried ink. Based on the analysis contradiction matrix and 40 inventive principles using TRIZ in improve stage, the recommendations in repairing defects caused by improper print position are cleaning component of the gearbox using a vacuum cleaner, using tool vibration tester and adding the lock nut, while for colours defects are training in measuring the viscosity and applying the development strategy of the supplier. Line appears defects adding camera in station printing and periodic cleaning of the ink pump.
