Abstract

Abstract This paper describes the development of an intelligent line follower robot having a capability to take turns quite effectively over a considerable amount of spatial spread. The robot can take sharp ninety degree turns by choosing the shortest possible route to complete the track if it bifurcates into two tracks; one shorter and one longer, still ending at the same point. This is possible with the positioning of infrared sensors used to detect the track along with the algorithm coded for the robot’s microcontroller. It handles other peripheral hardware such as infrared sensors and motors. The infrared sensors can precisely sense the black as well as white surface sending the data in bits to microcontroller which henceforth controls the motors driving the robot. Hence the robot follows the track perfectly according to the algorithm.

The applications of this intelligent line follower robot are in various practical domains. One could be the guidance system of robots working in assembly section of an automobile factory.

In the field of road transportation technology, there is a mechanism of lane departure system designed so that the driver can be warned when the vehicle starts moving out of its lane. Another application of this robot system could be in the medical sector to improve the health care management system where a line follower system which carries medicines to the patients whenever they need it. The technology can be focused on delivering safely, effectively, patient focusing and impartial health care
