Abstract
Hearth & Home Technologies (HHT) was founded on the principle that fair and respectful treatment of customers, members, and investors, coupled with sound business practices, ensures success. Since its formation in 1996 through the merger of Heat-N-Glo and Heatilator under HNI Corporation, HHT has expanded its portfolio through strategic acquisitions, becoming a market leader in the hearth industry. The company designs, manufactures, and distributes a wide range of gas, electric, wood, and pellet fireplaces, inserts, stoves, and accessories. The research at HHT focused on continuous improvement and innovation within the kits service assembly and packaging area. The primary project involved creating detailed work instructions for 160 SKU units, using a standardized template with high-resolution images and videos. Digital solutions using AutoHotkey and Python were developed to streamline access to these instructions and record data for productivity analysis. Additionally, SPC dashboards were created to monitor quality metrics, and the SharePoint site was reorganized for better document management. Participation in a Rapid Continuous Improvement (RCI) project involved identifying inefficiencies in the production assembly line and proposing Lean manufacturing solutions. These initiatives collectively enhanced operational efficiency, quality control, and productivity at HHT, demonstrating the transformative potential of detailed work instructions, digital solutions, and continuous improvement practices in modern manufacturing.
