Abstract

This project presents an industrial case wherein the “Lean Manufacturing Concepts” have been
applied for the objective of process improvement. The scope of the project was limited to deep
freezer department of Pak Elektron Limited (PEL). Various  tools namely Process & time study,
Takt time calculation, 5S, Assembly line balancing &  Value Stream Mapping  have been
employed to achieve the objectives. Baseline parameters have been established including
standardization of task times. Recommendations are devised and presented to industry for
possible implementation. It is assessed that up-to 7% improvement in labor productivity, 64%
reduction in lead time and 73% reduction in the movement of material in condenser shop is
possible if suggested solutions are implemented.
