Abstract

Product quality has been problem since the manufacturing engineering becomes the place to study and analyze the root causes of such product concerns. It is well-known that business requires to excel and grow must focus on the quality in terms of product and process continues improvements. Six Sigma is the tool used to analyze the problem and to reveal all possible causes that a manufacturing facility can improve to produce competitive products with reliable functioning time and customer satisfaction. This research focuses on one product as a sample of a wider range of product diversification in the furniture industry that can deliver the service indoors and outdoors. The top surface of the product surface is the area of analysis interest in terms of collecting data and proposing the solution. Real-world data has been collected for a six-month period of time to understand the product defecting process for creating the list of several suggested root causes, and then applying the Six Sigma to identify the possible solutions in terms of the right setups of each manufacturing factor. The results are expected to continue the promising of using the Six Sigma approach within the context of Define, Measure, Analyze, Implement, Control methodology (DMAICI).
