Undergraduate engineering education methodology has remained largely unchanged at universities for many decades, if not centuries. Apart from computer technology, not much has changed for at least the last century. The sudden appearance of COVID-19 forced all tertiary institutions across the world to drastically change the way they present courses to their students almost overnight. Due to the highly infectious nature of the pandemic, it was evident that courses needed to be delivered online. While study programmes such as some business and social sciences programmes were very successful in transitioning to an online delivery mode, engineering and other science-based programmes encountered additional challenges, both in terms of delivery as well as the way assessments are conducted.
