Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has driven educational institutions worldwide to shift their mode of delivery online. In this set up, internet connectivity plays a crucial role in the continuity of learning and sustainability of the student outcomes. With the Philippines having one of the slowest internet speeds in the world, it is not unusual for students and teachers to encounter problems concerning connectivity. The aim of this study is to produce a mobile application that would monitor internet connectivity and consumption. The target respondents of this study are students from different universities in the National Capital Region. Explanatory Case Study Design is used to determine how and why internet connectivity is slow, while Exploratory Case Study Design is used to answer who and what aspects and factors affect the internet connectivity. Input-Process-Output (IPO) Model is used to determine the questions to be asked to the respondents, on how the data would be analyzed, and the probable solution that would be proposed to answer the main problem of the study. The proponents had identified the different user requirements by incorporating Quality Function Deployment (QFD) in order to generate specific features that must be included on the mobile application to satisfy the user’s needs and expectations. This case report also highlights essential concerns within terms of online education delivery and internet connectivity.
Majority of the study’s respondents had been encountering difficulty in participating to online classes due to weak internet connectivity and had agreed on monitoring their internet connection such as the stability, speed, and consumption. The application will contribute benefits that would lead to discovery of the various aspects that should be taken into consideration by proponents, respondents, educational and research institutions who wish to utilize this paper for its continual progress.
