Abstract

Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) became more attractive at present time for Sudanese oil fields as the conventional resources deplete, and it can implemented by many methods, the  thermal method is the most used as EOR in Sudanese fields, thermal process can reduces viscosity of heavy oil and residual oil saturation to improve mobility and achieve an economic recovery, Cyclic Steam Stimulation (CSS) is one of the thermal methods, which has faster production, lower costs and lower pressure operations, and it’s of great interest in thermal methods.

The main objective of this paper is to find the optimum well location and injection parameters of the CSS process of two horizontal wells in FNE reservoirs in order to increase the sweep efficiency and improve the production from this field. FNE field is one of the Sudan’s heavy oil field with low API of 17.7 and high oil viscosity of 3800cP at 29 oC.

Optimum CSS parameters and several simulation models for different development scenarios have been built using advanced thermal EOR simulator, conducting many scenarios with different parameters and condition and compared to study the feasibility of applying CSS in horizontal wells.

the results obtained after the designing models and future prediction till 2030, it has been found that implementation of CSS in two horizontal wells with optimum conation will give 8% recovery factor more than to drill 10 cold vertical wells.

The optimum CSS parameters have been determined for well-1005 and well-1003. The injection rate is  250, 200  m3/day  , the  temperature is (330,200 0C),  injection period is 28, 3 days and soaking period is 3, 2 days respectively as well as  the steam quality of  80% for both wells.

The final optimum results shows that oil recovery could be improved from 24.29% by cold vertical production to 32.18% by CSS in the two horizontal wells.
