Abstract

The case study company in this study is a project-based organization and has been experiencing delays coupled with cost constraints and quality management issues in the execution of their projects. A research was therefore conducted to investigate the efficiency and effectiveness of project execution in the organization using a qualitative research approach. The research targeted population were all the stakeholders in management involved in the execution of projects. The study sample were nine participants selected using non-probability purposive sampling and data was collected using semi structured interviews. The research results showed that correct project management processes were being followed during project execution, however the way processes were being implemented was not efficient. Communication channels were ineffective, information was not cascading from top to bottom. Stakeholders were not engaged, resource distribution was not done effectively leaving other projects with shortages of material. There is lack of skills and training programs within the organization resulting in costly corrective measures. The study also revealed lack of monitoring and controlling, risk management was not done effectively, contractors were not managed properly and right processes were needed to ensure right governance while leadership was experienced differently in various sections.
