Abstract

The objective of this study was to present some proposals for the building construction sector in Colombia that would mitigate the problems in this sector and reduce the possibility of building collapse in the country. The study carried out a literature review on the barriers and critical success factors (CSF) for the implementation of total quality management (TQM) in the construction sector in different geographical contexts. Based on the 12 barriers and 8 identified success factors, the existence of these aspects was evaluated in the case of the collapse of the Space building located in Medellín, Colombia. As a result, the importance and consequences, both positive and negative, of the implementation of TQM in this sub-sector can be particularly evidenced.
