Abstract

This paper demonstrates how to deploy   the  modern data center design, connection, configuration and testing concept and techniques   in order to provide hands-on skills to  the student of higher engineering technology institutes  by saving cost, space, time and energy. During this research project students not only learn the latest data center deployment techniques but also provide a cost effective solution by establishing a mini data center in a higher engineering technology institute data network lab. In this research project, Spine-Leaf data center architecture was adopted. 100 Mbps Fast Ethernet links were bundled up to acquires maximum level of bandwidth.  Fiber Ethernet and port channel was created, configured, connected and tested for high speed data communication between the nodes and end users at layer 2. Virtualization techniques were applied to create, configured, connect and test virtual servers and workstations. The results also demonstrate that the three main objectives can easily be achieved   by this research project including but not limited to transfer of hands-on skill to the students, establishment of a mini type of data center to learn the design concept and techniques and to set a lab facility for the future students in order to perform data center lab experiments, projects and further enhancements in future.
