Abstract

Maintaining sewage systems is vital for public health and environmental sustainability, particularly in urban settings. In countries like Bangladesh, manual methods for separating solid and liquid waste expose workers to significant health risks and contribute to environmental degradation. To tackle these issues, we have designed the Automated Drain Cleaner, a cutting-edge solution that automates waste separation while enhancing garbage collection efficiency. The system features a conveyor-based waste separator, a garbage-can level sensor, a clog-detection mechanism, and an adjustable structure to accommodate various pathway sizes. Utilizing SolidWorks for design and ANSYS for structural analysis, the system is both durable and efficient. Customer insights gathered through surveys guided the design process, and Quality Function Deployment (QFD) ensured alignment with user needs. Financial analysis demonstrated the system’s affordability and practicality, making it a sustainable and scalable solution. This innovation reduces worker exposure to hazardous environments, improves waste management practices, and supports cleaner urban sanitation systems.
