Abstract
The utilization of biogas as a renewable energy source has garnered increasing attention due to its potential to mitigate environmental impacts and diversify energy portfolios. However, the successful deployment of biogas projects relies heavily on selecting optimal plant locations, a process that presents numerous challenges. This research aims to tackle these challenges by comprehensively examining the factors that influence biogas plant site selection. An extensive literature review identified 80 criteria, which were grouped into four primary categories: Economic, Social, Environmental, and Technical. From these, a refined list of 27 sub-factors was established and ranked based on the most utilized factors identified by previous researchers, creating a comprehensive framework for site selection. These insights offer valuable guidance for researchers and energy stakeholders, facilitating informed decision-making and promoting the sustainable deployment of biogas technologies.
