Abstract

This study proposes a Facility Layout Improvement Design Model that addresses the decrease in Labor Productivity in selected garments manufacturing in Metro Manila. The design includes an integration of process analysis, facilities design and plant layout simulation with SimRunner Option for further enhancement on efficiency, utilization and productivity of the operation and the workers. This paper proposes a procedural conceptual model and outcomes an improve design layout in order to determine the effects of labor productivity to plant layout design. It also identifies layout factors that significantly affect labor productivity such as the level of productivity, the type of layout used in minimizing the overall material process flow and number of workstation, and lastly, the increase in percentage of improvement of labor productivity. A process variable that affects the plant layout and labor productivity includes percent in operation and utilization along with the operation time and unproductive time. Promodel Simulation and SimRunner Option tools help validate existing layout to further utilize the location and productivity of the manufacturing facilities. It determines the overall percent operation and addresses the improvement of facilities plant layout design.
