Abstract
According to road fatality statistics, more than one third of people who are killed in accidents are pedestrians. In comparison to the vehicle occupants, the pedestrians suffer from more serious casualties in accidents in particular school children who have major considerations in traffic safety issues. Although, schools should be located in safe places to prevent children fatalities, in this research work, a method has been developed to determine the level of risk for schools in the vicinity of inter-city roads. After exploring school-zones and making an extensive research, a risk level determination method has been developed based on Analytical Hierarchy Process. The proposed methodology is then utilized to identify and prioritize rural schools considering effective factors which influence on road safety in particular in developing countries.
