Abstract
This study examines the sustainable production applications in Turkish companies. For that purpose first we define sustainability and discuss in which processes sustainability can be implemented in production. Afterwards we classify the sustainable practices that may be observed in production companies and by examining the sustainability reports of Turkish production companies we investigate which sustainability practices are adopted the most by the Turkish companies and which sustainability practices are not adopted at all. We use the sustainability reports submitted to the Global Reporting Initiative which is a leading organization in sustainability reporting and provides a standard reporting framework for sustainability. We conduct Friedman test to see whether the performance levels differ significantly for different types of practices. The results of our study show the state of Turkish production industry in terms of sustainability and provide important insights on in which areas sustainability should be improved.
