The purpose of the main research project consists of creating a maturity model that assesses Operational Excellence (OPEX) in manufacturing organizations integrating the Industry 5.0 (I5) pillars, Shingo guiding principles, and Key Behavioral Indicators (KBIs). There are three phases in this project: (1) collect the information to create the maturity model, (2) create the maturity model, and (3) validate the maturity model. This publication is exclusively focused on phase one, and its aim is to identify and classify KBIs aligned with the Shingo Model guiding principles and the I5 pillars in manufacturing organizations. Using a Scrum framework, the authors conducted a systematic literature review, bibliometric analysis, content analysis, and meta-synthesis analysis with 345 publications. Findings show that Shingo guiding principles function as interconnected dimensions of Operational Excellence rather than isolated domains, a rapid growth in the number of publications during the last years (predominantly from authors with country of affiliation in the United States, China, and the United Kingdom), 43 new KBIs were identified (additional to the 129 found in Shingo Model literature), and several of these new KBIs are related to I5 pillars. Future research should be focused on validating these 43 new KBIs.
