Knowledge is a strategic competitive factor and an increasingly important foundation of organizational quality, innovation and decision-making. Since ISO 9001:2015, organizational knowledge has been explicitly addressed as a quality management requirement. In ISO/FDIS 9001:2026, knowledge-related requirements and associated concepts receive greater emphasis, particularly regarding competence, quality culture, organizational learning, risk- and opportunity-based thinking, evidence-based decision-making and the systematic use of data. The informative guidance on organizational knowledge also explicitly refers to ISO 30401 on knowledge management systems. This paper presents the module “Knowledge Management and Data Mining” in the Master’s program Engineering and Management at Jade University of Applied Sciences. The module has been developed incrementally over twelve years through action research-oriented teaching practice. The paper focuses on the continuous review and adaptation of module content and learning methods. Standards evolution is used as an external curriculum benchmark to identify changes in the subject area and emerging competence requirements. In particular, ISO 9001:2015 is compared with ISO/FDIS 9001:2026. The resulting module blueprint combines knowledge management, organizational learning and innovation management with data mining methods for knowledge acquisition from large data sets. Its learning architecture integrates blended learning, project work, presentations, scientific writing, peer review and case studies.
