Industry 5.0 is increasingly shifting manufacturing priorities towards human-centricity, sustainability, and resilience, challenging the conventional assumptions embedded in Statistical Process Control (SPC) design and deployment. This study develops an integrated perspective of SPC 5.0 by first conducting a synthesizing review that consolidates core Industry 5.0 principles and examines them against established SPC design principles. Building on this synthesis, SPC design principles are revisited with a view to laying the foundations of an SPC 5.0 framework that extends SPC from a purely statistical monitoring mechanism to a socio-technical quality control capability. For demonstration of the formulated design principles and associated artifact, an illustrative worked example is considered, introducing a representative process monitoring scenario to the framework, and showing how chart design choices, escalation logic, and human–AI decision support can be aligned with Industry 5.0 requirements without compromising statistical rigor. The resulting SPC 5.0 perspective is positioned explicitly as an extension of, Quality 4.0 and smart SPC, inheriting their digital and analytical foundations while elevating human-centricity, sustainability, and resilience to first-class design requirements. Finally, a future research agenda outlining testable propositions and implementation challenges is discussed including measurement of human-centric performance, trust and accountability in augmented SPC, and validation pathways across manufacturing and service contexts.
