This project transforms an underused elementary/junior high school courtyard into an interactive outdoor learning space meant to promote interest in STEM and ecofriendly practices. The classroom features custom seating, regional plants, and a mural designed in collaboration with a Northwestern State University creative arts student. The solar-powered automatic watering system is powered by an ESP32 microcontroller and monitors plant health through Bluetooth connection. The layout of the planter boxes and individual irrigation needs were determined through research on plant spacing, soil science, and evapotranspiration. Together, these elements create a low-maintenance environment that teaches environmental science, electronics, and sustainability through hands-on experiences.
