There is a lack of participation by risk managers in an organisation's strategic decision-making which results in an absence of genuine action, usually relegating the risk management department to the role of a reporting system. This has a detrimental impact on the organisational operational performance and ultimately service delivery. The purpose of this research was to examine the impact of risk management (RM) strategies in enhancing the operational performance of public sector organisations. The motivation for this study emanates from a paucity especially in public sector, organisations on how RM impacts organisations in South Africa. Moreover, in the researched organisation failed to fulfil its mandate and operational targets. As a result, in South Africa, this calls for more research in this regard to better understand and manage RM and its relationship to operational performance in an organisation. A positivistic research paradigm with a deductive methodological approach was utilised in this study. The results of the study revealed through correlation analysis that RM strategies positively correlated with organisational performance. Therefore, this study provides a novel framework which could assist public sector organisations towards improving organisational performance and service delivery to South Africans.
