This study aimed to evaluate how digital transformation, including smart technology and predictive maintenance, impacts South African (SA) Rail operation’s efficiency, asset dependability, and cost reduction. Correlation analysis revealed a stronger negative relationship between the independent and the dependent variables, suggesting that enabling technological and systematic interventions through failure prediction reduces downtime and unnecessary stops, decreases repair costs, and indicates that the more it is used, the lower the failure rate.
