This study responds to the growing need for manufacturing systems that can adapt and remain resilient in the face of increasing complexity and ongoing global disruptions. It presents a structured framework that shows how smart technologies can be used to strengthen manufacturing systems. Unlike traditional approaches that focus mainly on improving productivity, this study places equal emphasis on building systems that are both adaptable and resilient. To achieve this, the study uses a qualitative and conceptual approach, drawing on existing literature and documented industry practices. The findings indicate that when smart technologies are effectively integrated, they can improve operational efficiency, support better real-time decision-making, and reduce process variability, while also making systems more flexible and responsive to change. The main contribution of the study is the development of a clear and structured framework for smart manufacturing resilience. This framework connects technology integration with key system capabilities such as flexibility, responsiveness, and robustness. It also offers practical guidance for organisations looking to move from traditional manufacturing methods to more intelligent, adaptive, and resilient production systems.
