This study explores the application of Supply Chain Risk Management (SCRM) in the South African railway industry. It aims to identify the critical success factors and barriers affecting the effective implementation of SCRM. A qualitative approach, grounded in the interpretivist paradigm, was employed to capture the lived experiences of ten senior supply chain professionals within the industry. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed thematically. Key success factors identified include the enhancement of internal systems, participatory change management, and leadership commitment. Barriers include inadequate information sharing, external environmental pressures, communication gaps, and globalization complexities. The study recommends improved communication, adaptability to economic conditions, and proactive environmental risk management to strengthen SCRM practices.
