ABSTRACT:
This study investigates the impact of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) on financial inclusion in Vemulawada Mandal, Telangana. It focuses on evaluating awareness, usage, and challenges faced by rural beneficiaries. Data was collected from 102 respondents using a structured questionnaire and analysed through descriptive statistics, Chi-square tests, and regression analysis. The results indicate that awareness of basic features like zero-balance accounts, debit cards, and Direct Benefit Transfers is fairly high, especially among youth aged 18–30. Gender differences were observed, with men showing slightly higher awareness than women. Education level had some influence, while income and occupation did not significantly affect awareness. However, many respondents lacked knowledge of features like overdraft and insurance. The scheme has helped many accesses formal banking services, improving financial security. Still, gaps in financial literacy and inconsistent service delivery hinder its full effectiveness. The study highlights the need for targeted awareness and training programs. Strengthening support systems and simplifying access can further improve PMJDY’s reach and impact.
