Today, due to various issues like deforestation, global warming and exploitation of natural resources, our mother earth is suffering from irreversible climatic degradation and depletion of eco-system. To address this issue, a portable eco-system called “Terrarium”, a habitable environment was set up to explore the possibilities of growing vegetation in a non-domestic environment and observe its effects.
Through research, we observed that the garlic sprouts planted in Terrarium showed 35.7% faster vegetative growth rate compared to its normal growth rate. However, we observed 20% decrease in the growth rate of coriander in terrarium environment. From our results it is evident that this technology can be used to grow vegetation on non-habitable environment which can help humanity thrive in adverse situations. Further our research may be explored for the possible commercialization of the habitable eco-system to preserve the planet.
