Logistics 4.0 is a rapidly evolving sector that is driven by digital transformation. Warehouses, as a central component of logistics operations, are at the forefront of this revolution, which necessitates advanced technologies to optimize processes, automate operations, reduce costs, avoid errors and enhance efficiency. This level of smartness can be achieved through the integration of Artificial Intelligence solutions, with computer vision (CV) playing a pivotal role in enabling these advancements. CV offers a range of solutions including object recognition and tracking, inventory management, quality inspection, and robotic navigation. This short survey provides a comprehensive overview of recent applications of CV in smart warehouses, categorizing findings by their application fields. Several studies demonstrate the deployment of edge AI cameras, drones, and robotic systems equipped with CV techniques such as image processing, deep learning-based architectures (e.g., YOLO variants, Faster R-CNN, Large Vision Models), and SLAM-based navigation. The paper highlights CV’s transformative role in addressing smart warehouses challenges and serves as a foundation for exploring recent advancements of CV to developing next-generation AI-driven smart warehouses, pushing the boundaries of efficiency and paving the way for future advancements in logistics automation.
