The research offers a systematic literature review of the adoption of blockchain technology in manufacturing. The systematic literature review (SLR) presented by this paper follows a method of creating clear research questions that probe the relevant studies available to extract and assess the synthesizing of the relevant data to answer the research questions. The review investigates articles that have enquired on the application of blockchain into the different industries and moreover whether their finds can apply in the use of blockchain into the manufacturing industry. The finding of this SLR shows that blockchain has been implemented by a number of industries because of its characteristics in handling, sharing, and processing of data and records. The application of blockchain technology’s claim to fame was in the financial sector using crypto currencies and now it is undergoing an evolution where it has added significant value into other industries by improving organizational efficiencies, privacy protection, and security of data management processes. A framework is presented that address significate areas of a future research in regards to the topic. Finally, the research literature review lays a foundation on a further study that investigates the application of blockchain technology in the manufacturing processes of a glass bottle making organization.
