We are currently in the “Decade of Action” for achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of Zero Hunger which underscores the urgency and commitment to addressing food insecurity by 2030. Compared to other parts of the world, food security issues in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) is severe due to water scarcity, conflict, and supply chain challenges. Given the land, weather limitations and other constraints of the region, adopting precision agriculture and smart farming enabled approaches is imperative to shorten the path to be traversed to achieve SDG objectives. In this paper, we bring together facts and figures relevant to MENA region and present a framework for adopting data-driven digital transformation to achieve resilience in the food supply chain (FSC) of the region. The proposed framework enables action initiatives such as implementing advanced analytics-driven proactive strategies, achieving end-to-end real-time accessibility, and facilitating smart, transparent, and flexible control of overall food supply chain operations.
