ABSTRACT

Despite accounting for 15% of the continent’s population with more than half the population under the age of 30, and 122 million internet users (55.4% penetration), Nigeria is still plagued with economic, security, and corruption challenges. Leveraging the Technology Adoption Model (TAM) and Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) frameworks, this work uses a mixed research methodology to investigate the adoption and implementation perception level of e-governance involvement in the fight against corruption; assesses the impact of digital economy growth on security, and tests the correlation between the digital economy and e-governance in Nigeria.

Through purposive data gathering from experts involving 52 questionnaires and 7 interviews, followed by coding and statistical analysis, it was discovered that there is little strategic drive for an anti-corruption war using e-governance as there is vast room for better performances than currently obtainable. It was also noticed that the digital economy has led to an increase in cybercrime in Nigeria. At the same time, there is a small positive correlation between the digital economy and e-governance initiatives in the country. Adequate recommendations were made on how to address the identified challenges.
