Abstract
Aim of research: The research focuses on the use of steel chips to produce corrosion and wear resistance alloy steel which are important for the economic production of steel work, reduce a negative environment metal impact, waste of time and money and investigate the sustainable development.
Experimental work:
The quantities of steel chips recorded during last few years by central tool room plant CTRP in Nasser state company for mechanical industries / ministry of industry and minerals in Iraq are 10-14 ton depending on the volume of production in each year.
Steel chips removed by machining processes, washed to remove oils and residual of coolant solutions, and after drying The chips, prepared mixes of chips and some alloying elements including Ni, Cr, these mixes have been compacted at 30 ton and melted in chamber furnace . The melted alloys have been casted into graphite tool, to produce set of circular and square cross sectional samples. Two Fe-Ni and Fe- Cr alloys The samples have been studied in high resolution optical microscope for microstructure observation. Mechanical properties such as impact energy. Micro hardness, and wear rates was evaluated depending on the chemical composition and the effect of heat treatment, wear resistance was investigated using pin on disk test. Chemical tests were performed which include weight loss method, six corrosion parameters were optimized by using Taguchi/ANOVA analysis. The chemical also includes electrochemical measurement which performed on set sample after optimization process which involved Open circuit potential and potentiodynamic polarization.
~~Results: The value of impact energy 32 J was achieved for set of samples after hot forming and heat treatment , in the case of micro hardness the results obtained 363 Hv, besides it is observed that the wear resistance was improved. Results of chemical tests were shown that the Fe-17% Cr has good resistance to general and pitting corrosion.
Orginity : Production of alloy steel with specific properties from steel chips was investigated in this research. Process planning includes set of processes to produce alloys with required properties was created in this research. The conclusion obtained from this research were applied to produce some parts which have good corrosion and wear resistance. These parts are components of the grain delivery system used in rice harvester machine, which must have good corrosion and wear resistance because water- dispersed soil components adhere to the plants during rice harvesting. A very large amount of dirt is entrained into the machine.
