The purpose of this study was to explore the learning concept of the blended learning in traditional engineering education. The study identified the factor of applying educational and critical influences of student interaction in the classroom and online. The study also explored the link of working in teams to complete homework and using learning management system Black Board for in depth discussions. A graduate level engineering course was selected for the research. A pre-survey and post-survey was the instrument of choice for this research. Due to observations and complexity of the course, it was determined that the usage of lectures, videos, team assignments, discussion boards, readings and homework problems would provide balance in the classroom. This student-centered approach was a much needed shift compared to the traditional paradigm of educating learners. Students resisted the course, the usage of the learning management systems and communicating in the class. After two assignments and the first exam, the students really embraced a different way of learning while meeting in a classroom. Students were able to leverage the work and meet the goals of becoming successful learner’s in their engineering course.
