Shorthand is the art of writing a written symbol to represent a spoken sound. This technique has been used for a long time. Shorthand is used by the secretary to record the meeting's proceedings. Shorthand was frequently used to chronicle the everyday operations of parliaments. Shorthand has played an important part in the operation of businesses by providing an efficient and accurate means of recording daily operations. Other shorthand writers are referred to as stenographers, in addition to secretaries. The relevance of shorthand in current secretarial work is examined in this paper. The paper adopted purposive sampling using open ended interviews to collect data. 12 experts, six (6) from the human resource management and six (6) from office technology and management participated in the study. Nvivo 10 was employed to aid data analysis. Shorthand is no longer useful in the modern workplace, according to the findings. Findings also revealed that technology has largely replaced the services that shorthand used to provide in offices, therefore focusing on the benefits of technology in the teaching of should be prioritized. Shorthand should not be taught to secretaries during training, according to the recommendations. It was concluded that modern office technology should be given more attention in order to improve the office automation that the modern office requires. These office automation tools aid the secretary in providing efficient secretarial services.
