Sediment deposition in the river channel is one of the major problems in the alluvial rivers in Bangladesh. Sediment comes from the upstream of the river as well as it is generated by the river bank erosion in the alluvial rivers. It is the national problems in Bangladesh. To address such a national problems, an experimental investigation was done in the laboratory of River Research Institute, Faridpur, Bangladesh. In the laboratory river channel banks, a series of bamboo bandalling structures are placed to combat river bank erosion & at the same time to restore sediment near the river bank. This is the low cost approach for river bank erosion protection. For this low cost approach, it is needed to know in details in the laboratory before going to the field. In the study of the laboratory, it is observed that water flow diverted towards the main river due to bandals placing near the river bank resulting comparatively less velocity appeared near then river bank & for this reason sediment deposited due to reducing the sediment transport capacity of the river flow. This type of sedimentation near the river bank gives an indication that the spur like bandalling structures can be used successfully for the river bank erosion protection.
