Sustainability reporting has gathered a momentum importance at present in the developing country like Bangladesh. The study examined the present sustainability reporting of all listed banking companies for the period of 2015. Secondary data mainly from the annual report and sustainability report of thirty banks were used for data collection. The study used general content analysis to measure the sustainability reporting in the banking sector. The study proposed a sustainability reporting score model along with Global Reporting Initiatives (GRI) sustainability reporting indicators. The study further tested the sustainability-related Key Performance Indicators (KPI) of the listed banks in relation to the environment, society and economics. Descriptive statistical methods are used to find out sustainability related indicators. The finding revealed that Bangladeshi banking sector is in a new era of the sustainability reporting. Preliminary reports also indicate that banking companies are reporting on sustainability matter in the annual rather than a standalone report. The result further pointed that banks are concentrating and focusing mainly on environmental and social qualitative and quantitative information in the annual report. The economic performance and institutional pressure, therefore, appear to be a significant factor influencing how sustainability reporting develops in Bangladesh. The findings have significance implication on the corporate level as well as policy makers of the country to think about sustainable development for the future emergence of the country’s economy.
