Abstract
Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd. is a senior gold producer operating in Canada and Australia that produced 1,369,652 ounces in 2020, with target production for 2021 of 1,300,000 – 1,400,000 ounces. Our production profile is anchored by three high-quality operations including, the Macassa Mine and Detour Lake Mine, both located in Northern Ontario, Canada and the Fosterville Mine located in the State of Victoria, Australia.
In 2020, Kirkland Lake Gold made a commitment to be net-zero by 2050 or sooner. Like many other mining companies who have taken on the challenge to reduce their carbon emissions, the challenge next has become how. Macassa is already among the lowest greenhouse intensity mine in the world and the focus has shifted to bringing down the carbon emissions from Detour and Fosterville.
Through this presentation, Kirkland Lake Gold will share how the journey to net-zero started and the tools that are being used. Developing a pipeline of projects that build a pathway to net-zero is the task at hand among the mining sector. Developing a Scope 3 screen and how to do it along with integrating the requirements set out by the TCFD. Lastly Kirkland Lake Gold will discuss navigating the plethora of reporting requirements on carbon.
The presentation is to demystify the buzz-word of net-zero and provide a roadmap that can help kickstart other mining companies on their journey and learn from others who are well under way.
