Thomas Nigl graduated cum laude from Northeastern University with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering in 2016. His previous scientific experiences include characterization of high temperature materials at the energy storage startup AMBRI and computational modelling at Gachon University in South Korea. As a graduate student at Penn State, he investigates the use of electrochemistry in the separation of fission products from molten salts in used nuclear fuel recycling systems and molten salt reactors. He is also President of the Science Policy Society.
