Biography

Mr. Tappert joined the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission in 1991. In the Office of New Reactors he supported licensing and development of the construction inspection program for the first new build in the U.S. in a generation. His current position, since 2016, is as the Director of the Division of Decommissioning, Uranium Recovery, and Waste Programs in the Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards. Prior to joining the NRC, he served in the U.S. Navy's nuclear power program. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace and Ocean Engineering from Virginia Tech and a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering from John Hopkins.
