Charlie Smith is Director of the Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Under Charlie’s leadership, DOE instituted a new Small Business First Policy, strengthening its advocacy of small business. As an expert in tax lien purchasing and financing transactions, Charlie worked for JP Morgan Chase and a range of small businesses, and was the Deputy Commissioner for the New Jersey Department of Banking. He served five years in the Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer on-board a guided missile destroyer. Charlie holds a BA in Political Science from Princeton University.
