Dr. Elena Kalinina is a Technical Staff Member in the Storage and Transportation Technologies department at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She has a Ph.D. in Hydrogeology from Lomonosov’s Moscow State University. Dr. Kalinina has extensive experience in modeling complex systems and specializes in multi-disciplinary simulation problems. Dr. Kalinina’s most recent projects include simulating groundwater transport in crystalline rocks using fractured continuum model; heat extraction from the enhanced geothermal systems; feasibility study of the direct disposal of dual purpose canisters, potential impacts of standardized canisters on waste management system, and transportation of spent nuclear fuel.
