Volkan Ustun is a Research Scientist at the University of Southern California’s Institute for Creative Technologies (ICT). He has B.S. and M.S. degrees from METU, Turkey and a Ph.D. degree from Auburn University all in industrial and systems engineering. Before joining ICT, he held postdoc positions at Georgia Institute of Technology and Rice University. Papers from his Ph.D. research are recipients of The Gene Newman Award of Excellence in Modeling and Simulation Research and the Winter Simulation Conference I-Sim/ACM-SIGSIM Best Computer Science Focused Student Paper Award. His general research interests are cognitive architectures, computational cognitive models, natural language and simulation. Dr. Ustun is a member of the cognitive architecture group at ICT and a significant contributor to the Sigma cognitive architecture.
