Biography

Mary Lou is a professor of Nuclear Engineering at Idaho State University and an NRC licensed operator of ISU's AGN-201 reactor. She has conducted research in various aspects of WM, including cementitious waste from development, pyroprocessing of SNF, modeling of the nuclear fuel cycle and treatment of irradiated nuclear graphite. Mary Lou has a BS in Chemistry (from Cedar Crest College), MS in Environmental Engineering and PhD in Nuclear Engineering (both from Penn State). She is an active member of the American Nuclear Society in many different roles, most notably as President of the Society in the 2020-2021 term. Mary Lou spent 2008 in South Africa working with PBMR, Ltd. to develop waste minimization practices for the their pebble bed reactor design.
