Biography

Sylvia Linan-Thompson, Ph.D. is an associate professor at the University of Oregon in the Department of Special Education and Clinical Sciences and is affiliated with the Center on Teaching and Learning. Her teaching and research focus on teaching and assessing the reading development of struggling readers who are monolingual English speakers, bilingual students acquiring Spanish and English literacy, and the English writing development of emergent bilingual students with and without learning disabilities. Her research includes longitudinal intervention projects that developed and examined reading interventions and examined the implementation of RtI/MTSS in dual language schools. She has authored articles, chapters, and books on these topics. Dr. Linan-Thompson chairs the Advisory Committee on Exceptional Children and Youth of the Office of Overseas Schools, U.S. State Department.
