Biography

Angela Maria Villamizar is a doctoral student at the University of Texas at Austin in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction, in the program of Bilingual/Bicultural Education. She received her BA in International Relations and Non-Governmental Organizations & Social Change from the University of Southern California before earning her Master's in Education from the University of Notre Dame. Originally from Chicago, Angela has taught in bilingual and monolingual classroom settings at the elementary and high school levels in Texas and California. Her research interests include the experiences and motivations of early career bilingual educators, social media as a space for bilingual/bicultural literacy and identity development, and the mental health of students and teachers of color.
