WCEPS
Yvonne, a dynamic leader and presenter, is the Director of Multilingual Learner Educator Engagement at WCEPS, where she collaborates closely with Local Education Agencies (LEAs) to align educational goals with educators' needs. Her personal journey as an immigrant from Chihuahua, Mexico, enriches her professional work, providing a unique perspective as an English language learner. With over 25 years of experience in education, Yvonne has taught students from kindergarten to high school and served as a Professional Learning Specialist at WIDA, contributing significantly both internationally and domestically.
Yvonne's commitment to education is deeply personal, reflected in her achievement as a first-generation graduate with a master's degree, along with her two sisters. Her background fuels her passion for advocating high expectations and recognizing the cultural assets bilingual students bring to schools. She emphasizes continuous learning for educators, understanding that they seek more than just a day of training. This belief led her to initiate a coaching program at WCEPS, now a valuable resource for districts across the U.S., providing support and fostering growth.
Residing in Washington State with her husband, Yvonne previously lived in Las Vegas, Nevada, for over 23 years. She holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Angelo State University and a Master's in Bilingual Education from NOVA Southeastern University, with endorsements in TESL, Bilingual, and Computer Literacy. Yvonne is proud of her two bi-racial sons, who are both accomplished with bachelor's degrees and reside in Nevada and Washington states.
