Atilim University School of Medicine
Zeynep Aktas was born in 1978 in Turkey. She graduated from Gazi University School of Medicine, Ankara, Turkey in 2001 and started to work as a resident in the same year. She completed her thesis titled “Neuroprotective effect of topically applied brimonidine tartrate 0.2% in endothelin-1-induced optic nerve ischaemia model” then finished ophthalmology residency in 2006.
She worked as an observer at the New York Ear and Eye Infirmary, Glaucoma Clinic, NY, USA, in May, 2009 then started to work as an instructor between 2010-2014 at the Gazi University School of Medicine, Dept of Ophthalmology, Glaucoma Division. Then she did her glaucoma clinical/research fellowships at the University of Wisconsin, Dept of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, Madison, WI, USA where she also worked on gene therapy targeting trabecular meshwork/Schlemm’s canal and viral vectors. She got Associate Prof degree in 2015 when she returned back to Turkey and Professor degree in 2021. She is currently working as a clinician/researcher at the Atilim University School of Medicine, Dept of Ophthalmology, Glaucoma Division.
She is also a member of Associate Advisory Board of International Society of Glaucoma Surgery (ISGS) and a board member of Middle East Africa Glaucoma Society and Turkish Glaucoma Society and also Co-Chair of Congenital Glaucoma Special Interest Group - European Glaucoma Society.
She is an expert on Pediatric and Adult glaucoma surgery, Schlemm’s canal surgery, GATT (Gonioscopy Assisted Transluminal Trabeculotomy), MIGS and surgical treatment of complex glaucoma cases and cataract and lectures on these topics internationally. She is married for 17 years and has 2 kids.
