Biography

The Honorable Joyce Connery Chair Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board President Biden designated Joyce Connery as Chair of the Board in January 2021. Ms. Connery has served on the Board since August 2015, and was chair from 2015-2017. The Board advises the Secretary of Energy regarding adequate protection of the public at DOE’s defense nuclear facilities. Previously, Ms. Connery served in the National Security Council, as Senior Policy Advisor to the Deputy Secretary of Energy, and in NNSA. She has extensive experience in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkmenistan. Ms. Connery holds degrees in international relations, law and diplomacy, and social work.
