Biography

Shahid Mahmud is the Director of EPA’s Office of Mountains, Deserts and Plains (OMDP) within the Office of Land and Emergency Management. As Director of OMDP since inception in 2020, Mr. Mahmud aims to improve the federal government and other key stakeholders collaboration and coordination to collectively respond to unique challenges or needs associated with the cleanup and reuse of abandoned hardrock mining sites and advance positive outcomes for communities and the environment. Mr. Mahmud is currently working with EPA Regions 6 and 9, key EPA Headquarters offices and key stakeholders to advance the cleanup of the Navajo Nation and surrounding area abandoned uranium mines.
