Biography

Matt is a Principal Investigator in the Ocean Technology and Engineering Group (OTEG) at the National Oceanography Centre (NOC). His research focuses on the development of new sensor technologies for environmental applications. He coordinates the EU Horizon 2020 funded project Technologies for Ocean Sensing (TechOceanS) which tackles measurement of biology with eDNA sensors and samplers, sampling of microplastics, AI processing of images, and the development of microsensors for microplastics, biogeochemical and organic chemical targets. He also leads the NOC element of the EPSRC programme grant MISSION which tackles the use of the mid-infrared for ocean and medical sensing applications. Matt is the Founder and CTO of ClearWater Sensors Ltd.
