BS: Univ of Athens, Greece (1994), Ph.D: Yale (1998), Postdoc (1998-2000): Oak Ridge National Lab (with Bruce Moyer). FIU (2000-present) My group’s research interests are encompassing f-element chemistry, main group chemistry, organometallic chemistry, and supramolecular chemistry for separation and sensing applications. We are particularly focused on extraction-based separation/sensing methods for actinides, fission products, and other species important to the mission of the US Dept. of Energy (DOE). With our expertise in coordination chemistry, ligand design and solvent extraction, we are pioneering methods for combined separations of cesium and actinides, and we have designed soft-donor ligands for selective actinide/lanthanide separations, addressing problems in our nation’s nuclear waste legacy.
